Honeycomb
window blinds
otherwise known as cellular shades, are a unique, stylish
window blind covering. These fabric blinds have a cross-section
that resembles honeycombs, through which the air pockets
insulate the room, reducing heat loss during winter and
heat gain during summer. If achieved with maximum effectiveness
this energy efficiency can cut the home’s heating
and cooling by a half. Clearly, honeycomb window
blinds have tremendous potential to reduce the carbon
footprints, as well as adding great beauty and comfort to
your home.
Window coverings
insulate by slowing the movement of heat that is caused
by temperature differences between the interior and exterior
of a home. The better a product works against conduction,
convection, and radiation, the better it insulates. R-value
is the measure of a material’s resistance to conductive,
convective, and radiant heat flow. The higher the R-value,
the slower the heat transfer through the material. U-factor
is a measure of the heat flow itself. The higher the R-value,
the lower the U-factor, and the less heat flow through a
material.
The multiple
layers of cells in the honeycomb also provide sound proofing
and enhanced light filtering. Honeycomb blinds are flexible
and sturdy, available in single, double or triple cell honeycombs.
A single cell window blind is perfect for a large window
since it is lighter in weight than a double or triple cell
blind. For small or medium sized windows, the double or
triple cell would work well regardless of the weight. With
bigger cell sizes, the insulation gets better.
Since they are
made out of fabric, they come in a wide array of colours
and patterns, abstract or figurative, all offering choices
to suit individual preferences. Normally this fabric is
fade resistant and fire resistant. Honeycomb window blinds
are available in soft light-filtering materials to give
the desired privacy.
Unlike
vertical blinds
or miniblinds
that come in slats, honeycomb blinds are constructed from
continuous fabric and features pleats. Some honeycomb blinds
come with a cord, or continuous cord loop for top-down or
bottom-up options. There can also be a cordless feature
and a remote-control feature. Typically honeycomb blinds
suit small to very large window areas, even doors, skylights,
arched doors and windows. They fit formal, contemporary,
modern and traditional home decorating styles, but more
so for areas that need greater insulation.
